Business question from John Bercow (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 4 May 2006. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.
Business of the House
May we please have the first debate on Africa in this Chamber since 30 June last year? Given that, in the index of failed states that was published this week, no fewer than six of the 10 at the top of the list were in Africa—Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Chad and Somalia—is it not time for the House again to consider how the British Government, working multilaterally, might address the fragility of those states, which is damaging to their own citizens and a source of wider regional instability?
