Venezuela

- To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether the visit of the President of Venezuela to the United Kingdom will be a State Visit;

President Chavez of Venezuela made a private visit to the UK between 14-16 May. It was not a State Visit. There were never plans for meetings with Government Ministers or officials. The Venezuelan Government did not request any official meetings with the Government. A representative of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office met President Chavez on arrival in the UK.
