- To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what his Department's total expenditure on preparations for potential UK entry to the euro was in each year since 1997.

Since December 1997, the Euro Preparations Unit in the Treasury has worked with stakeholders from across the economy to ensure that euro preparations are at an appropriate level. The costs of the Euro Preparations Unit are met from within the Treasury's departmental expenditure limit
