Gibraltar: Military Bases

- To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many civilians are employed at the dockyard in Gibraltar.

Further to the answer I gave to my right hon. Friend on 5 March 2007, Official Report, column 1657W, I am not able to confirm how many civilians are employed at the dockyard in Gibraltar because the facility is operated by a private company. They, and not the Ministry of Defence (MOD), employ the civilians who work there.The number of civilian personnel employed by the MOD in Gibraltar is listed in the following table¹, showing both core MOD staff, and locally engaged civilians as at 1 January 2007. These figures represent all civilian personnel in Gibraltar. Details for specific areas such as the dockyard are not held centrally."¹ All figures have been rounded to the nearest 10."
