Immigrants: Detention Centres

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases of (a) attempted suicide and (b) self-harm have been recorded in immigration detention centres in each of the last 12 months.
Answer

[holding answer 26 March 2007]: We keep records of self-harm incidents which require some form of medical treatment but we are unable to determine whether any of these incidents are actual incidents of attempted suicide. Cases reported each month for the period May 2006 to April 2007 are reproduced in the following table.
