Arms Trade: Al Yamamah

- asked Her Majesty's Government:In light of the Prime Minister's comments on 7 June, what vital interests to the United Kingdom would have been wrecked by a continued investigation by the Serious Fraud Office into the Al Yamamah arms deal.

The director of the Serious Fraud Office independently took the decision to discontinue the investigation because of a real and serious threat to national security. I refer to the explanation that I gave to the House on 1 February 2007 (Official Report, cols. 375-82).
