To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what discussions his Department has had with BAE Systems on apprenticeship rankings.
The department is delighted to offer its congratulations to BAE, and to all employers who have made the Top Apprenticeship Employer rankings for 2026.
The rankings recognise organisations of all sizes across England that are leading the way in investing in people, championing skills, and opening up real opportunities through apprenticeships. Many of these new opportunities being created will benefit young people, especially at the start of their careers, ensuring where someone grows up doesn’t determine what they can achieve.
These rankings aren’t just about numbers, they highlight businesses that are committed to quality, progression, and creating meaningful careers. By doing so, these employers are not only strengthening their own workforce but also helping to drive growth and build a more inclusive economy.

The Defence Investment Plan (DIP) has committed to a pipeline of work in Type 26 and Type 31 construction which will employ the prime Scottish shipyards (BAE Systems and Babcock) well into the 2030s, securing thousands of jobs and millions of pounds of economic benefit to the local areas.
Delivering world-leading anti-air warfare capability for the Royal Navy has always been a priority for this department as set out in the Strategic Defence Review and the DIP. The Type 83 destroyer was an early-stage concept, and no decisions had been made on where and how it would be delivered.
The DIP made commitments to the Common Combat Vessels and Type 9x autonomous vessels as part of the hybrid navy. This work presents a substantial and exciting opportunity for Scottish shipyards, boatyards and technology companies to sustain and create jobs across the shipbuilding enterprise and supply chain.
The Government is focused on providing a clear and transparent pipeline of work in support of the Royal Navy and as a spur to sectoral growth.

The Ministry of Defence does retain documents relating to Al Yamamah and the Saudi British Defence Cooperation Programme (SBDCP). However, these remain classified on grounds of national security and international relations.

Our Type 26 deal to provide at least five Norwegian frigates is a significant economic boost which will deliver jobs and drive growth in Scotland. We are working closely and meeting regularly with our Norwegian allies to progress the new partnership, with the Defence Secretary most recently meeting with his counterpart this month and agreeing to step up our security commitment. Our bilateral strategic partnership is more important than ever to the security of the Arctic and High North. We are safer and more prosperous together.

The Ministry of Defence continually assesses its current and planned capabilities to ensure that it is appropriately equipped to face any adversary.
The CV90 was one of the vehicles considered during the competition for the Scout Specialist Vehicle. An evaluation has not occurred since the Ajax contract was awarded.
