Business question from David Leslie Taylor (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 19 July 2007. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.
Business of the House
May we have a debate on the gadarene flight to large-scale outsourcing of Government Departments’ executive agencies? The most recent example involves the Department of Transport’s Vehicle and Operator Service Agency, and the result will be that private profit and road safety are mixed in the most unsatisfactory way, as has happened in mainland Europe and Ireland. What is the rationale for the move, as there is precious little evidence base for improved value for money or for better delivery of Government objectives?
