Child Benefit: EU Nationals

(5) in respect of how many Latvian children living in Latvia UK child benefit is paid; and how much was spent on those payments in the last year for which figures are available;
Answer

Around 7.5 million families are currently claiming child benefit for around 13 million children.At the end of December 2007, there were around 21,000 ongoing awards to A8 nationals recorded as receiving child benefit for around 34,000 children living in another EEA member state. This equates to around a quarter of a per cent. of all child benefit awards.The breakdown by nationality is as follows but these disaggregated numbers are only estimates and should be used with caution.
