Playgrounds: Finance

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what funding his Department provided to the Department for Children, Schools and Families-led Sporting Playgrounds scheme in each of the last five years; and what contributions his Department plans to make in each of the next three years.
Answer

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him on 10 March, Official Report, column 144W.In April 2005 the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, announced a £2 million investment to extend the Sporting Playgrounds programme which is also funded through the DCSF. This scheme refurbishes existing primary school playgrounds to enhance opportunities for sporting activity. Over 600 primary school playgrounds have been developed since the programme began in 2001.There are no plans for a Sporting Playgrounds programme over the next three years.
