British Nationality: Prisoners

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many UK nationals are in prisons outside the UK.
Answer

As of 31 March 2008, our consular officials were aware of 2,208 British nationals detained overseas. This figure includes those awaiting trial and those serving custodial sentences.
