Immigration: Criminal Records

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances criminal records checks are carried out on (a) EU and (b) non-EU foreign nationals entering the UK.

I refer the hon. Member to my answer to his question, Immigration: Criminal Records of 8 July 2008, Official Report, column 1445W.In relation to the circumstances in which criminal records checks are carried out, as my earlier answer stated, our policy is that the documents of all foreign nationals at ports of entry are checked against the Home Office Warnings Index.
