Roads: Accidents

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans she has to make road traffic accident investigation reports accessible to the public.

Answer: Police accident investigation reports form a subjudice criminal investigation file once proceedings have been commenced. The contents of these files are not published, and extracts are only provided to courts and the Crown Prosecution Service in the process of providing evidence, and provided to third parties and insurance companies according to law. Following proceedings, the police files are held in confidence, given the personal and other data they contain. There are no plans to change this.
