Drug Interventions Programme
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much her Department allocated to each drug action team in England in 2007-08; and how much has been allocated for 2008-09.
- Answer
-
I have been asked to reply. The Department of Health and the Home Office have provided specific resources for drug treatment since 2001 in the form of the pooled drug treatment budget (PTB), with £398 million of funding provided in 2007-08 and 2008-09. In May 2007, the Ministry of Justice assumed responsibility for the element which had been the Home Office contribution. Mainstream resources are used by local partnerships in addition to the PTB to fund drug treatment services. The following table shows the PTB allocations by local drug partnership areas for 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The NTA's role is to ensure that allocations reflect local need, to monitor how funding is spent and to work with PCTs and Drug Action Teams to ensure that local treatment systems continue to improve and deliver effective and efficient services.
