Heathrow Airport

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport pursuant to the Statement of 15 January 2009, Official Report, column 358, on transport infrastructure, when he plans to lift the cap of 125,000 on the number of additional flights permitted at Heathrow Airport.

Answer: We have made clear that our support for a third runway is subject to an aggregate limit of 605,000 annual movements, to be reviewed in 2020. That review will take account of a number of factors, as set out in the ““Adding Capacity at Heathrow—Decisions following consultation”” document which can be found on the Department's website. It follows that, until that review, it is not possible to anticipate whether of not the cap might be lifted or the timing of any decision to lift the cap, subject to planning approval.
