Radioactive Waste: Waste Management

- To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what steps have been taken at HM Naval Base Clyde to ensure that requirements on waste prevention and minimisation have been incorporated into waste generation procedures and training at the base.

Waste generation is always considered during the planning of any nuclear work, and efforts are made to minimise the rate of production and the quantity of waste produced. Initial and refresher training is provided to both submarine and base staff that specifically addresses the requirement to prevent and reduce radioactive waste. Waste disposals from HM Naval Base Clyde continue to be well below the agreed disposal limits.
