Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education how much his Department and its predecessors spent on newspapers, periodicals and trade profession magazines in each year since 1997.
Answer

The Department, as a whole, spent £163,329 on journals between 2002 and 2004, which is outlined in Table A. Since 2004, the Department's Knowledge Management Team has spent a total of £346,331 on newspapers, periodicals and trade profession magazines, which is outlined in Table B. Individual teams in the Department have the option to subscribe to periodicals if they wish; however, to extract this information would involve disproportionate cost, as would going back before 2002.
