Trident

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence pursuant to the answer of 11 November 2010, Official Report, column 449W, on Trident value for money review, what external assistance and technical consultancy his Department commissioned for the Trident value for money review; and how much it spent on each piece of work commissioned.

Answer: £70,000 was spent on assessing the scope for improving efficiency within the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) and a further £120,000 was spent reviewing site infrastructure and processes across the AWE estate. In addition, £10,000 was spent modelling cost and risk on the successor deterrent submarine.Overall, the value for money review produced savings of £1.2 billion and deferred spending of up to £2 billion over the next 10 years.
