Armed Forces: Armoured Vehicles
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is the status of the Future Rapid Effect System Utility Variant programme; and what consideration has been given to procuring a vehicle already in service with other armies to meet the requirement.
- Answer
-
The Future Rapid Effect System has been recast from a single programme into a set of constituent programmes, one of which is the utility vehicle programme. The way forward on this programme is being reviewed following the publication of the strategic defence and security review. During the utility vehicle competition in 2006-07, consideration was given to several candidate vehicles that were either in, or scheduled to be in, service with other armies. All candidate vehicles that demonstrate they can meet the requirements will be eligible for consideration in any future competition.
