Written question asked by Lord Stoddart of Swindon (Independent Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Earl Attlee (Conservative) on Tuesday, 7 December 2010.

European Commission: Motor Cycles

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Earl Attlee on 23 November (WA 298), whether they are aware of the launch ofa European Commission consultation concerning MOT tests for motor cycles and related matters; and whether they will publish their response to the consultation.
Answer

The Commission published in July an internet consultation in the form of a questionnaire asking about personal experience of roadworthiness testing and views on possible future policies. The questionnaire covered all vehicle types, not just motor cycles. Since the questions in it were addressed to individuals rather than to Member States, the Department for Transport did not respond. However, we are in contact with the Commission about our preferences for EU roadworthiness testing policy in the future.
