- (2) what the timetable is for discussions with the European Commission on his plans for a rural fuel duty rebate; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given to the hon. Member for Na h-Eileanan an Iar (Mr MacNeil) on 21 December 2010, Official Report, column 1143W.A range of evidence is being considered as part of the work prior to submitting a formal proposal to the European Commission for a pilot scheme that will deliver a maximum of five pence per litre duty discount on petrol and diesel in remote rural areas.
