Commonwealth Countries: Accession to the Throne
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the answer by Lord McNally on 10 January (HL Deb, col. 1169), whether any objections have been raised by Commonwealth countries concerning affording equal rights of accession to the Throne to daughters of the Sovereign.
- Answer
-
Commonwealth countries of which the Queen is head of state are in regular dialogue over the legal and constitutional issues in which they have a shared interest. Discussions have taken place between officials, and are continuing. But they remain confidential, and the Government are not in a position to reveal information about the contents of those discussions.
