Natural Gas: Exploration
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change if he will examine the potential effects of the extraction of shale gas and coal bed methane in the UK on performance against the Government's objectives for (a) reducing carbon emissions, (b) energy security and (c) energy affordability.
- Answer
-
Shale gas and coal bed methane have not yet been commercially proven on a large scale in the UK, so it is too early to examine any potential effects on the Government's objectives in relation to carbon emissions, energy security and energy affordability. However, we will be keeping this under review.
