Gaza: Airport
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government what was the European Union's financial contribution to the building of Gaza International Airport; and what proportion of it came from the United Kingdom.
- Answer
-
Gaza International Airport was primarily funded by contributions from a number of individual EU member states which did not include the UK, rather than through EU funds. The EU had agreed to provide €25 million (approximately £21.5 million) for the construction of a cargo terminal of which €1.374 million (approximately £1.18 million) was disbursed before the Israeli attack in 2001 which put the airport out of use. The UK share of this EU funding was approximately 16 per cent.
