Water Charges: South West

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs pursuant to paragraph 1.156 of Budget 2011, HC 836, how much her Department plans to spend from the public purse on reducing water bills for customers in the south-west; from what date this money will be made available; how many people in each demographic group will be eligible for such payments; and from which of her Department's budgets the expenditure will be drawn.

Answer: The Government will consult shortly on proposals to address water affordability across England, including the south-west. This will include reforms to the existing WaterSure scheme, the approach to company social tariffs and options for additional Government spending to provide further support. Additional funding will be provided to DEFRA as necessary to deliver this policy, taking into account practical and affordability considerations.
