Netherlands: Slaughterhouses

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will raise (a) at the United Nations and (b) with the European Commission the prohibition by the Netherlands of the practice of shechita; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

The Dutch Parliament is currently considering a draft law on the prohibition of the ritual slaughter of animals. However, this is a matter for the Dutch Government and Parliament accountable to the people of the Netherlands. We have no plans to raise this subject with the UN or the EU Commission.
