Armed Forces: A-400M

Question: To ask Her Majesty's Government how many RAF and Ministry of Defence personnel were sent to the 2011 Paris Air Show as part of publicity efforts for the A-400M aircraft.

Answer: While a number of RAF and Ministry of Defence personnel did attend the Paris Air Show in a variety of official capacities, none was involved in any publicity efforts relating to the A400M aircraft. Nevertheless, the Government are committed to supporting the current A400M export campaign, and will consider any requests for assistance in this field; however, none was received in this instance. Whilst at the Paris Air Show the Chief of Materiel (Air), a senior RAF officer, signed the A400M in-service support Memorandum of Understanding. This is an agreement between the A400M partner nations relating to future common support activities for the aircraft, and a media statement was issued to this effect.
