Dental Services: North West

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many dental implants were preformed in the NHS North West heath authority area by (a) the NHS and (b) the private sector in each of the last three years; how many such patients were aged under 18; and if he will make a statement on the criteria for eligibility for dental implants.
Answer

Information is not available in the format requested. The ““Adult Dental Health Survey”” (ADHS) 2009—Summary report and thematic series' contains limited information on dental implants.Table 4.4.5 of theme 4 of the thematic series includes the percentage of adults with at least one dental implant. Information is available by strategic health authority but, due to the limitations of the sample size, is not available at a lower level. The information does not differentiate between national health service and private work. A copy has been placed in the Library. The report and thematic series are also available on the NHS Information Centre website at:"www.ic.nhs.uk/pubs/dentalsurveyfullreport09"The 2009 ADHS is the fifth in a series of national dental surveys that have been carried out every decade since 1968. Information is, therefore, not available for consecutive years.Criteria for eligibility for NHS dental implants are determined by the NHS locally.
