Tenants: Leasehold
- Question
- To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what recent assessment he has made of the rights of business leasehold tenants to acquire properties; and whether he plans to bring forward legislative proposals in respect of such rights.
- Answer

We do not believe most business tenants would benefit from a right to acquire the freehold and have no plans to legislate. Business tenants normally enjoy statutory rights of security of tenure, and there is generally a plentiful supply of commercial premises for purchase on the open market for businesses that would prefer to occupy their property freehold.
