Written question asked by Mike Freer (Conservative) on Wednesday, 12 October 2011, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 17 October 2011. It was answered by Lord Barker of Battle (Conservative) on Monday, 24 October 2011 on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Departmental Press: Subscriptions

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change how much his Department spent on newspapers, periodicals and trade profession magazines in 2010-11.
Answer

The Department of Energy and Climate Change spent £80,200 on its press cuttings service during 2011-12. The Department does not record expenditure on newspapers, periodicals and trade profession magazines separately from overall expenditure on publications which includes the cost of the Department's own publications as well as purchased publications of all types. It would incur disproportionate costs to scrutinise all publication transactions to identify relevant amounts.
