Banking: Iceland
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Sassoon on 20 July (WA 298), what are the duties of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme that require it to continue contacting depositors in failed Icelandic banks with a view to repaying their unclaimed assets; when they suggest that the practice should stop; and what are the net and gross figures for repayment costs to compensated depositors to date, and what are the outstanding liabilities.
- Answer
-
It is for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme to determine how frequently and for how long it contacts depositors in failed banks. Details of compensation paid to depositors are included in HM Treasury's accounts, which can be found online at the following link: http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/d/annual_report_accountsl40711.pdf.
