Energy: Fuel Poverty

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many households they expect to be in fuel poverty in 2020; and what proportion of that total they expect to be the result of costs on the consumer due to environmental policies applied at that time.
Answer

The department produces projections for fuel poverty up to 2011 and these are published in the annual report on Fuel Poverty Statistics 2011. The latest fuel poverty projections, based on 2009 data, project fuel poverty data to 2011. Projections are based on estimated changes in income and energy efficiency of homes between 2009 and 2011, and actual energy costs. The projected number of households in fuel poverty in England in 2010 is 4 million, and 4.1 million in 2011. There are no estimates of the effect of all environmental policies in 2020.
