Traffic Commissioners

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will review the role and powers of the traffic commissioners in the light of the recent Competition Commission recommendation concerning effective regulation of the bus industry.

Following the recommendations of the Competition Commission, my honourable friend, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport (Norman Baker) has discussed the matter with the Deputy Senior Traffic Commissioner. The Government will wait for the publication of the Competition Commission’s final report before deciding what action is necessary in respect of the role and powers of the traffic commissioners.
