Adventure Activities Licensing Authority

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many times the Health and Safety Executive has re-tendered the contract for the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority since the authority's creation in 1996.

The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) was established in 1996 under the Activity Centres (Young Persons’ Safety) Act 1995. Following a tender exercise, Tourism Quality Services Ltd (TQS) was designated as the AALA on 16 April 1996. When HSE was appointed as the AALA in 2007, following the Hampton review Reducing administrative burdens: effective inspection and enforcement, it retained TQS under contract to provide the licensing service for adventure activities. HSE has not subsequently retendered for this service.
