Asylum Seekers

- To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many asylum cases are under consideration by the Criminal Cases Directorate; of these, how many relate to persons arrested on entry to the United Kingdom; and how many of those in turn relate to persons convicted under Section 2 of the Asylum and Immigration (Treatment of Claims etc.) Act 2004 for not having a travel document at the time an application for leave or asylum was made.

There are 323 asylum cases under consideration by the Criminal Casework Directorate as of 24 November 2011. It would incur a disproportionate cost to obtain a breakdown relating to persons arrested on entry and convicted for the lack of a travel document.
