Energy: Tariffs

- To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what estimate he has made of the number of people who are prevented from leaving pre-pay energy tariffs because their energy supplier will not allow them to switch payment method.

Ofgem is responsible for monitoring and publishing information about prepayment meter customers. During 2010, 5,652 prepayment meter customers who were not in debt had their request for credit terms refused by their electricity or gas supplier. Ofgem is following this up.
