Written question asked by Lord Bradshaw (Liberal Democrat), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Earl Attlee (Conservative) on Monday, 19 December 2011.

Railways: Intercity Express and Electrification

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what would be the impact on the Intercity Express Programme of Transport Scotland's proposal to terminate all East Coast trains at Edinburgh.
Answer

The type and calling patterns of the new rolling stock can be varied both prior to and post financial close. If Transport Scotland’s proposal were taken forward it would result in a higher ratio of electric to bi-mode trains.
