Police: Misconduct

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what her policy is on disciplining police officers found to have tampered with records of evidence.

Answer: In addition to the criminal and civil law, police officers are also subject to the Police Conduct Regulations which contain the standards of professional behaviour that police officers are expected to maintain.Where a police officer has breached those standards, it is for the chief officer or police authority/elected local policing body of the force concerned to consider what, if any, disciplinary action should be taken on a case-by-case basis.
