Youth Custody: Ethnic Groups

Answer

The tables show the number of incidents of self harm of young people (aged 10 to 17) in each age group (Table 1) and ethnic group (Table 2) for each Secure Training Centre by month from 2008-09 to 2009-10. This information has been provided by the Youth Justice Board (YJB).These data come from monthly returns from secure establishments to the YJB. Due to the way these data are collected it is not possible to tell if the same young people are involved in multiple incidents throughout the year. These figures have been drawn from administrative IT systems, which, as with any large scale recording system, are subject to possible errors with data entry and processing and can be subject to change over time.Data for 2010-11 will be published on 26 January 2012 in the 2010-11 Youth Justice Statistics publication, which will be available on the Ministry of Justice website.
