Written question asked by Lord Kennedy of Southwark (Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Lord Marland (Conservative) on Tuesday, 31 January 2012.

Energy: Suppliers

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what action they are taking to make it easier for consumers to make an informed choice when deciding whether or not to switch energy suppliers.
Answer

The Government support work being undertaken by Ofgem in its retail market review in relation to energy tariffs. Ofgem’s proposals, published in December 2011, include a range of measures that will require suppliers to simplify tariff structures and billing information. The proposals should make tariffs easier to compare and help customers make better informed choices.
