Armed Forces: Psychology

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence which universities his Department is working with to improve psychological testing and training in the armed forces.

Answer: The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has a close working relationship with King's College London, primarily through the King's Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR), which is the leading civilian UK centre of excellence for military health research. The MOD's own Academic Centre for Defence Mental Health (ACDMH) is also based at King's College, and works closely with KCMHR on a range of research aimed at understanding and improving the mental health of the UK armed forces. This currently includes a major study, funded by the US Department of Defence, of a possible mental health screening tool using UK armed forces personnel returning from operations.
