HMS Caroline

Answer: We have agreed in principle to gift HMS Caroline to the National Museum of the Royal Navy. This is subject to the development of a viable heritage business plan for the ship and parliamentary approval. As well as the National Museum being able to fund the day-to-day responsibility for the ship, following decommissioning on 31 March 2011, a heritage plan is required to be developed in consultation with the Northern Ireland authorities and others.Discussions are continuing between the National Museum of the Royal Navy and authorities in Northern Ireland. An announcement will be made when a decision has been made on the future of the former HMS Caroline, which we expect to be in the summer.
