Answer

Mr. Griffiths: To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if she will make a statement about the promotion of a wider knowledge of (a) the Welsh language and (b) other languages in the European Union under the European Commission's Ariane programme.[20261] Mr. Sproat: One of the aims of the Ariane programme--which is still under discussion and not yet finalised--is to support the translation of literary works into and out of one Community language to another with a priority being given to lesser-used ones, including Welsh.
