Question: What response his Department has made to the European Commission's recommendation that public entities wishing to advertise invitations for tenders should break down large contracts into lots. - (Holding answer 10 June 1996).

Answer: Mrs. Roche: To ask the President of the Board of Trade what response his Department has made to the European Commission's recommendation that public entities wishing to advertise invitations for tenders should break down large contracts into lots.[31889] Mr. Oppenheim: [holding answer 10 June 1996]: The European Commission is expected to present shortly a Green Paper on procurement policy in the European Union. My Department will consider, in consultation with business interests and with HM Treasury, which are the lead Government Department on procurement policy any such recommendations which are made.
