If she will comment on the current level of unemployment in the North West Region. - Figs given.

Mr. Callaghan: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if she will make a statement about the current level of unemployment in the north-west region. [39998] Mr. Paice: Unadjusted unemployment in the north-west standard region fell by over 15,000 in the 12 months to August, from 256,550--9 per cent.--in August 1995 to 241,219--8.5 per cent.--in August 1996, the last month for which figures are available.
