Question: If he will list for each district health authority serving the Greater London area for each of the financial years 1996-97 and 1997-98 and subsequent years for which figures can he given (a) the recurrent deficit, (b) the non-recurrent surplus or deficit, (c) movement in balances, (d) the cash deficit and (e) those cash deficits expressed as a percentage of revenue or expenditure. - Includes reference to a table based on figures supplied by health authorities at the end of the first quarter of 1996-97 which will be placed in Library shortly. Answer: Mr. Spearing: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will list for each district health authority serving the Greater London area for each of the financial years 1996-97 and 1997-98 and subsequent years for which figures can be given (a) the recurrent deficit, (b) the non-recurrent surplus or deficit, (c) movement in balances, (d) the cash deficit and (e) those cash deficits expressed as a percentage of revenue or expenditure. [40794] Mr. Horam: [holding answer 16 October 1996]: The information is not available in precisely the form requested. A table based on figures supplied by health authorities at the end of the first quarter of 1996-97 will be placed in the Library shortly. This sets out the forecast outturn position for each health authority including those serving the Greater London area, for 1996-97. These are shown as a percentage of each authority's income, and the forecast movement in balances in the year is also show. We do not anticipate there being cash deficits as the system of brokerage between health authorities is expected to avoid these. Information on future years is not yet available.
