Mrs. Bridget Prentice: To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what was the total expenditure on new buildings and premises by his Department and its agencies; and if he will indicate the square footage of new office space purchased or newly rented in each of the last five years. [41141] Mr. Streeter: The information shows the square footage of new office space acquired during the period requested. The information reflects space acquired for departmental headquarters offices, associated offices, the Public Trust Office and the Courts Service. 1993-94: 426.6 sqm 1994-95: 4573.41 sqm 1995-96: 13,316 sqm (together with nominal holdings for the General Commissioners of Income tax in buildings in Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bristol and London transferred from the Inland Revenue) 1996-97: 2551.7 sqm (transferred to LCD under the provisions of the Efficiency Scrutiny of Civil Estate) I regret that it has not been possible before Prorogation to provide details of the space acquired by the Court Service outside its headquarters. I will write to the hon. Member with these details for the period until 1 April 1995. The chief executive of the Court Service will reply in relation to the period after 1 April 1995, when the Court Service became an executive agency. The chief executives of Her Majesty's Land Registry and the Public Record Office will also reply separately after Prorogation. Copies of all these letters will be placed in the Library.
