How many and what percentage of students in full-time higher education (a) received full maintenance grants and (b) received no maintenance grants at the latest date for which figures are available. - Figures given.

Mr. Bryan Davies: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many and what percentage of students in full-time higher education (a) received full maintenance grants and (b) received no maintenance grants at the latest date for which figures are available. [9749] Mr. Forth: The Department has figures available for holders of mandatory awards only. In the academic year 1994-95, of 761,000 mandatory award holders, excluding placement year sandwich students, 344,300-- 45 per cent.--received full maintenance grants and 175,400--23 per cent.--received a nil maintenance grant.
