- Whether, despite HMGs assurances in 1992 and 1993 that they were committed to upgrading the A.1 trunk road between Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Edinburgh to dual carriageway throughout its length, that pledge has now been abandoned; and, if so, why in view of their recent statement that priority will be given to schemes involving major trunk roads. -
