Mr. Pearson: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the average amount of income tax paid on investment income by (a) pensioner and (b) non-pensioner households with annual investment income of (i) less than £50, (ii) £50 to £99, (iii) £100 to £499 and (iv) over £500 for the most recent year for which information is available. [20555] Mr. Jack: Reliable information on the investment income of households is not available. Information on individual taxpayers' investment income was given in my answer to the hon. Member on 18 February 1997-- Official Report, columns 441-42.
